Hand Driven Van de Graaff GeneratorThis hand-cranked model, with instructions and accessories, is essentially a turn-key operation. Set it on your lab table, invite a volunteer to start cranking, and then demonstrate the static electricity produced. The instruction booklet describes a host of experiments as well as explaining in detail how it works. 10-088 - Hand Driven Van de Graaff Generator..............$209.95 |

Wimshurst MachineThis easy-to-use device consists of two high resistance plastic discs 25 cm in diameter with equally spaced metal sections. The discs are supported with two upright posts and rotate in opposite directions through a hand crank, producing substantial opposite charges which are deposited in the capacitors and on the metal electrodes. You can collect induced charge with the brushes and adjust the electrodes and Leyden jar capacitors for higher potential, thus generating sparks by lowering the system's capacitance. It is mounted on an attractive wooden base. Instructions include theory and background.1478-10 - Wimshurst Machine..............$99.95 |
Volta's Hailstorm![]() |
When near an active Van de Graaff Generator, the tiny conductive balls inside begin to bounce up and down. It looks as if the pieces are "hailing" as they skitter and rebound. The explanation lies in the fact that the floor and ceiling of the cage become electrically charged. The Van de Graaff builds up a charge by induction as electrons are transferred from the ceiling to the floor. Since the balls lying on the floor are now negatively charged, they are attracted by the positively charged ceiling. But when the balls hit the ceiling, their negative charge is neutralized and they become positively charged instead. Down they fall to the negatively charged floor where they become positively charged upon impact. Back and forth, upwards and down - a veritable "hailstorm in a teapot." This flurry of activity will last as long as the Van de Graaff generator is running.

Probe detects E fields produced by electrical activity and other unknown anomalies. Unit uses no batteries or other sources of power yet detects very weak and virtually un-noticed energy fields. Unit can also provide a three dimensional output "footprint" of medical healing machines such as LAKHOVSKY coils, High voltage generators, Ion machines, Dangerous lightning levels, Power line E field gradients, High frequency radiation from TESLA coils and similar devices. This probe is used by paranormal researchers as seen on some TV shows.
This device is for detecting strong E fields, like those from plasma globes, tesla coils, ion generators, etc. It is not intended for weak E fields, like those generated by many household items. If you need something to detect household or weaker energy fields, we suggest our IOD10. The apparatus is electrically balanced and designed in the shape of a wand with a 2 inch brass sphere at its detecting end. The handle is 1” OD x 9” of treated polycarbonate with plated metallic tape wrapped around the ends. A red neon indicator lamp (a standard bulb that should last for years, but can easily be replaced if needed)flashes upon detection and increases as you get closer to the source, or if the source gets stronger. This handy unit is easy to use and can check the validity of output energy of various healing machines and other radiating products. It is a must-have product for those working in these energy fields. Probe detects:
